Anyone can be a victim of domestic abuse

Abusers and victims can be male or female, any race or religion and from all different types of background.

Domestic abuse is carried out by partners or ex partners. It can be:

  • intimidation, degradation, isolation and control, with the use or threat of physical or sexual violence
  • emotional or psychological
  • physical
  • sexual
  • financial
  • harassment and stalking
  • online or digital abuse.

If you are a victim of domestic abuse, you are not alone. There are agencies that can help and support you.

Police Scotland offers advice on staying safe, reporting domestic abuse and the Disclosure Scheme for Domestic Abuse Scotland.

Scottish Women's Aid plays a key role in tackling domestic abuse in Scotland. It supports 36 local women's groups across the country.

Highland Violence Against Woman Partnership can provide advice on what services are available.
